Moving Image Staff

The course Moving Image is carried out by experienced practitioners and academics who will support those looking to extend their creative abilities, research methods and professional skills. The curriculum includes guest lectures and workshops lead by visiting experts.

Dr. Marc Boumeester (Moving Image Design)
Marc has been working for various major television- and film-production companies and realised over 60 projects, varying from commercials to drama series and feature films. He was lecturer and researcher at the Delft University of Technology and co-founder and head of the department Interactive Media Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. His PhD research at the University of Leiden focused on the interplay between the non-anthropocentric desire, architectural conditions and unstable media, particularly in cinema.

Ina Bode (Professionalization)
Ina obtained a German Diploma in visual communication and design. She is a specialist in the design division and interested in aspects like creativity and innovative thinking. She worked for 9 years as managing director in the design industry and is an experienced educator in the design department. Since 2013 is she head of the department Crossmedia Design and since 2015 head of the department Moving Image.

Katharina D. Martin (Philosophy and Image Theory)
Katharina studied Media Art and Aesthetics in Germany and the Netherlands. She realised numerous art and video projects and was artist-in-residence at the ISCP, New York and the Robert Wilson Watermill Center, New York. Martin is a doctoral researcher in philosophical aesthetics at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and an associated member at the cluster of excellence ‘Image Knowledge Gestaltung’ at the Humboldt University of Berlin.

Lot Hulshof (Philosophy)
Lot studied visual art in the VAV department for moving image at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Throughout working as an art practitioner, she studied philosophy and received her master's degree in 2014.

Jan Guchelaar (Software and Sound Design)
Jan holds a degree for photography and design. Throughout working as design practitioner, he graduated as musician and composer. Jan Guchelaar is an experienced software tutor and a qualified expert for image and sound editing software.

Nur Özgenalp (Filmmaking and Project Guidance)
Nur has directed short films for her bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Television and holds an MA in Film Studies. She is experienced in filmmaking, screenwriting and journalism, and has been teaching film courses since 2003. She is also a doctoral researcher at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis, where she studies cultural and political transformations by examining storytelling elements of television series.

Elodie Hiryczuk & Sjoerd van Oevelen (Image Design and Project Guidance)
Elodie and Sjoerd work as an artist duo with photography and installation. They also write and publish essays about alternative ways of looking. Both graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Art and Design in Amsterdam. Sjoerd van Oevelen further studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and Elodie Hiryczuk at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. Hiryczuk / Van Oevelen won numerous awards and participated in exhibitions worldwide.

Bert Teunissen (Photography and Project Guidance)
In 1987 Bert became a commercial photographer. He worked for major advertising agencies and magazines for about 10 years before he started to make personal projects. His work has been exhibited across Europe and the United States and published in many magazines, including Aperture, Zoom, and Art on Paper. Exhibitions of Domestic Landscapes were presented in the Huis Marseille Museum for Photography, Amsterdam, and at the Photographers’ Gallery, London.

Dave Willé (Concept Development and Project Guidance)
Dave has a background in architecture and works for over 15 years as sculptor and image designer. He is an experienced lecturer in design education and programme coordinator in the department Interactive Media Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

Gijs Dierselhuis (Filmmaking and Project Guidance)
Gijs is cinematographer, director of photography and cameraman based in Den Haag. As artist and filmmaker he is addressing questions concerning social constructs and scientific concepts like durability and sustainability.

Tess Martin (Animation) 
As independent animator Tess works with cut-outs, ink, paint, sand or objects. Her most recent award-winning film is ‘The Lost Mariner’, and her short film 'Ginevra', will be in festivals in 2017. Her films have displayed at galleries and festivals worldwide. In addition to her personal and commissioned work, Tess is also passionate about animation community. She runs and moderates the Manifest Animation Show & Tell events in Rotterdam and she is the director of Haptic Animation Amplifier, a non-profit that helps support & distribute animation from the Pacific Northwest of the USA. She also occasionally writes about the world of independent animation for Cartoon Brew and other sites or publications.
